Amistad's Mission

We help those with mental illness, substance use disorder, chronic homelessness, and related issues to recover and lead healthy lives.

We do this by fostering community among our members, by seeking to expand our peer services to reach more people in need, by advocating for more and better healthcare availability, and through our belief in the inherent potential of each individual and our respect for a meaningful consumer voice.

Our Vision

We envision a society where all are accepted, encouraged and respected, and where those suffering from mental illness, substance use disorder, homelessness, hunger, and related challenges receive the care, compassion, and support they need in order to recover and lead productive lives.

Our Values

We believe that services that are organized and delivered by peers focus on building positive relationships and should become an integral part of the mental health system.

We have a fundamental and unwavering belief in the power and possibility of recovery and absolutely believe that all individuals can lead full, rich, and productive lives.

We believe that all members of the Amistad community – members, staff and those seeking services – deserve to be treated equally and with dignity and respect at all times.

Social Justice

We recognize that many individuals we support are dealing with challenges related to poverty. We intend our work to be empowering and to support self-determination and resilience
