I spent years struggling with a family member who was diagnosed with mental health issues. While challenging, seeing what this person went through on a daily basis fostered a desire in me to want to do more and become more involved. As a result, I volunteer in a number of capacities to work in our community with local and national organizations that help those less fortunate. What is particularly meaningful about Amistad is that it works with those who live in the shadows of our community, people who others try to avoid, who need a helping-hand. Amistad is there with sincere compassion and empathy, and without pre-conditions or judgment, helping people get to a better place, or simply make it through another day.
